Seafarer Capital Partners manages an open-end mutual fund, the Seafarer Overseas Growth and Income Fund, which offers investors an income-oriented means of participating in the growth prospects of emerging markets.

Seafarer’s team has experience that spans the financial services industry and extends to a broad number of overseas markets. The team is united by an interest in offering products that are transparent, reasonably priced, and that emphasize risk-adjusted performance. Seafarer’s ultimate aim is to consistently satisfy our clients’ long-term interests.

Seafarer is a wholly employee-owned firm located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Andrew Foster

Founder, Chief Investment Officer, and Portfolio Manager

Andrew began his career in emerging markets in 1996, when he worked as a management consultant with A.T. Kearney, based in Singapore. While there, he worked with private and government financial institutions located throughout Southeast Asia, helping those clients to navigate the Asian currency crisis.

Andrew’s investment career began in 1998, when he joined Matthews International Capital Management, advisor to the Matthews Asian Funds. Beginning as an investment analyst, Andrew was named Director of Research in 2003, and was then tasked with building up the investment team and its research capabilities. He later served as the firm’s Acting Chief Investment Officer during the height of the global financial crisis, from 2008 through 2009.

While at Matthews, Andrew was privileged to be named as assistant manager on the firm’s Growth & Income strategy in 2003, and was lead manager of the Fund from 2008 to 2011. He launched and was a manager of the firm’s India and Asia Dividend Funds. Andrew was directly responsible for the management of over $4 billion in emerging market assets, and oversaw both public mutual funds and private accounts, including a sub-advisory relationship for Bank of Montreal’s Asian Growth and Income Fund.

Over the past decade, Andrew has been quoted in many premier media publications, including Barron’s, The Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch, Forbes, Kiplingers, Money and ValueInvestor. He has been featured in nationally-broadcast television segments, including appearances on Bloomberg TV, CNBC, Fox Business News, and Consuelo Mack Wealthtrack. Andrew has also participated as a featured speaker in investment forums across the country and abroad.

Andrew holds an A.B. in Public Policy and a secondary degree in Economics from Stanford University and a M.B.A. from INSEAD in France.

William Maeck

Associate Portfolio Manager

William began his career in emerging markets in 1992 as an equity research analyst for Standard Chartered Bank in Thailand. For nearly a decade in Asia, he witnessed multiple political and economic cycles both as an equity analyst and a management consultant for A.T. Kearney in Singapore. While with A.T. Kearney, William managed strategy and operations engagements throughout southeast Asia as a member of the firm’s Financial Institutions Group and gained significant exposure to Asia’s banking sector. More recently, he worked with Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC Private Banking as an investment advisor for high net worth individuals and family offices.

William holds an A.B. in History from Princeton University and a M.B.A. from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Kate Jaquet

Senior Research Analyst and Chief Compliance Officer

Kate began her career in emerging markets in 1995 as an economic policy researcher for the international division of The Adam Smith Institute in London, England. While at the institute, Kate worked with senior government officials across emerging markets as part of the conferences that the institute hosted.

In 1997, Kate moved to New York to work for Credit Suisse First Boston as an investment banking analyst within their Latin America group. At CSFB, Kate focused on corporate finance and enjoyed extensive travel across the region for new business and due diligence. Kate then moved on to a sell-side research analyst position within the company, covering emerging markets bond issuers across both Latin America and Asia. This job also involved extensive travel in emerging markets and the publication of company specific research and larger industry studies.

In 2000, Kate joined Seneca Capital Management in San Francisco as a senior research analyst in their high yield group. As a buy-side credit analyst, Kate conducted proprietary research on high yield and distressed issuers. This research process involved extensive financial modeling and asset valuation, including cash flow, relative value and comparable company analyses. While at Seneca, Kate covered the metals & mining, oil & gas, and utilities industries as well as emerging market sovereigns and select emerging market corporate issuers.

Prior to starting her career in finance, Kate lived and worked in Buenos Aries, Argentina.

Kate holds a B.Sc. (Honors) in Economics and Government and a M.Sc. in Economics and Public Policy, both from the London School of Economics.

Alex Lusherovich

Head Trader

Alex’s experience in the investment industry has focused on trading and operations. Previously, he worked for Tora Trading Services in Hong Kong, where he was responsible for electronic trade execution, trading operations and product development.

Prior to joining Tora, Alex was an investment analyst for a long-short equity fund and an investment operations analyst for a small-cap money manager.

Alex holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley.

Michelle Foster

Founder, Chief Financial Officer, and Director of Fund Administration

Michelle’s experience in the investment industry spans wealth advisory services and investment management. Previously, she was a member of the investment advisory team at Litman/Gregory Asset Management, an independent wealth management firm that serves individuals, non-profits, and institutions. Prior to joining Litman/Gregory, Michelle was a Principal in the iShares division of Barclays Global Investors, where she was responsible for the development of exchange traded funds in asset classes such as international equity, emerging markets equity, and fixed income. She began her career as an analyst in the investment banking division of J.P. Morgan.

Michelle holds an A.B. in Economics with Honors from Stanford University and a M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She has completed the educational and examination portions of the CFP® (Certified Financial Planner) certification requirements.
